To yacht Captains and crew it is simply a great Marina but in the country wide scheme of things to the people of Montenegro it is a major tourist attrction.
Now it seems it is winning awards for being just that.
Porto Montenegro has received the Wild Beauty Award 2013 for Best Tourism Investment Project.
The awards ceremony was organised by the National Tourism Organisation supported by the President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanovic, and held at the Hotel Splendid Conference & Spa Resort in Becici, with guests from political, cultural, economic, tourist and public life in Montenegro.
Twenty-three awards from various categories were given in recognition of exceptional contributions to the tourist industry.
On acceptance of this prestigious award, Savo Djurovic, legal director of Adriatic Marinas, explained that although recession has been prominent over the past year, Porto Montenegro has continued to support the country’s position as an elite tourist and yachting destination.
Furthermore, an additional 70 million euros has been invested in the project, enabling a 2014 completion date for the Regent Hotel and marina extension. A total of 180 million euros has been behind the project, with more than 700 members of staff involved.
The award was conceptualised in 2005 by the Council for Tourism in Montenegro – affirmation of Montenegrin tourism, recognising the high standards achieved in promotion and competition, creating and recognising tourism value, and the ability to create and sustain distinctive tourism products within Montenegro.
