UK Staycation Demand Rises Following Airline Fuel Concerns
UK staycation searches have jumped by 498% after airlines received permission to cancel flights this summer due to jet fuel shortages.
New research from Winz.io revealed a huge spike in UK searches for “staycation” on 4 May. The rise followed reports that airlines could consolidate or cancel services to conserve fuel supplies.
The government now allows airlines to adjust schedules at least two weeks before departure. As a result, carriers can protect valuable airport slots while reducing fuel use.
According to Hardy Heberle, CMO at Winz.io, interest in UK holidays surged within hours of the announcement.
He said travellers should book popular destinations early because availability in hotspots like Devon and Cornwall could disappear quickly.
Heberle added that many people now prefer local holidays instead of risking overseas travel disruption.
Campervan Holidays Continue Growing in Popularity
The staycation boom is also driving strong demand for campervan and motorhome holidays across the UK.

More travellers now want flexible holidays without airport delays or rising flight costs. Consequently, many first-time campers are choosing road trips closer to home.
roadsurfer says campervan travel offers freedom, flexibility, and affordable adventure. The company operates rental stations across the UK and Europe.
From coastal escapes to national park adventures, travellers increasingly favour nature-focused breaks over expensive overseas trips.

Expert campervan tips for first-time travellers have been listed by roadsurfer. They include:
Take Time to Adjust
Every first campervan trip involves a learning curve. However, most travellers quickly adapt to driving, parking, and organising smaller living spaces.
Keep Your Route Flexible
A loose itinerary often creates the best experiences. Instead of overplanning, leave time for spontaneous stops and local recommendations.
Hidden lakes, scenic viewpoints, and village cafés often become trip highlights. In addition, campsite apps make finding overnight stops far easier.
Pack Only What You Need
Overpacking remains one of the biggest mistakes for first-time campers. Therefore, choose versatile clothing and soft bags to maximise storage space.

Learn the Campervan Systems Early
Before departure, travellers should understand the power, gas, and water systems. This preparation helps avoid stress during the first night away.
Choose a Professional Rental Provider
Professional rental companies provide vehicle demonstrations, support, and standard equipment. As a result, first-time travellers often feel more confident during their trip.

Markus Dickhardt, CEO and co-founder of roadsurfer, said many new campers worry about getting everything perfect immediately.
He explained that camping works best when travellers stay flexible and learn as they go.
