HMS Trent Flies the Flag in New Orleans

When HMS Trent arrives in New Orleans, Britain will take centre stage at Sail 250.

The Royal Navy patrol ship will join major maritime celebrations for America’s 250th Anniversary.

Fresh from intensive training in Plymouth, HMS Trent is now crossing the Atlantic for a demanding deployment. The mission combines humanitarian support across the Caribbean playing a prominent role on the banks of the Mississippi River.

From 27 May to 1 June, the Portsmouth-based vessel will join an international flotilla of naval ships and tall vessels in New Orleans. From there she will begin her hurricane season operation.

The visit marks the Royal Navy’s first appearance in the city since 2012 and opens Britain’s involvement in the wider America 250 celebrations.

HMS Trent to Showcase UK Maritime Presence

As New Orleans prepares to become a focal point for global maritime activity, HMS Trent will represent the United Kingdom throughout the event.

Visitors will have opportunities to explore the ship and take part in activities. These include community engagement events, sporting fixtures, tall ship visits, and traditional Cajun-themed experiences.

Commander Gavin Lowe, Commanding Officer of HMS Trent, said the crew was eager to return to operational duties following maintenance and training in the UK.

He highlighted the ship’s role in humanitarian aid and disaster relief. He referred to continued cooperation with the US Coast Guard on counter-trafficking operations and support for British Overseas Territories.
