Summer is hotting up, and it is getting especially steamy at Bert’s Kitchen Garden, the eco-campsite on the Llyn Peninsula.
Campsite guests, will soon be able to book in for sessions at the new wood-fired sauna, located right on the campsite’s beach in Trefor.
It opens on 10 July and stays so across July and August.
Clad in aspen, with a wood-fired narvi stove, Bert’s new sauna has been built by the team at Sauna Box. And it is set within a vintage Wessex horsebox.
The new sauna completes the picture for beach lovers at Bert’s. Last year, the campsite opened ‘Beachside’, a café space on Trefor beach. The Cafe serves a seasonal menu of cakes and sandwiches, alongside locally-roasted coffees.
Plus, new for the 2025 season, are a trio of car-camping pitches on the beachfront too. Trefor beach is an ideal spot for wild swimming or kayaking. Campers can hire kayaks from Bert’s for £20 an hour. And if the Welsh waters prove too chilly, the sauna now offers the perfect place to warm up.
Costs
Bert’s sauna costs from £16.50 for a 60-minute communal session or can be hired privately for £110 per hour.
Staying at Bert’s
Bert’s is a simple, back-to-nature campsite that offers guests the chance to relax and unwind. There are 36 camping pitches, in wildflower meadows perfumed with the scent of meadowsweet or tucked into a riverside paddock, while there are four pitches for campervans and the three new car-camping pitches on the beachfront. Facilities include shower blocks, where eco-friendly toiletries are provided, composting toilets, BBQs to hire, and a small kitchen with washing up facilities and fridges.
Alongside the camping pitches, there’s a family hut sleeping four, two other huts, each sleeping two with an en suite shower, and a beautiful holiday cottage for rent, The Piggery, with a master bedroom, huge en suite, log burner and coffee making facilities.
All guests are welcome to enjoy the on-site restaurant set in the middle of a kitchen garden.
