Significant Milestone for Sunreef 43M Eco

A significant milestone in the construction of the Sunreef 43M Eco, has been reached.

This pivotal moment came about with the unmoulding of the yacht’s 1,700-square-metre composite hull.

The hull is the first in Sunreef’s largest and most eco-friendly yacht series.

The build is managed by Ocean Independence acting as project managers and Owner representatives.

Major step forward

This significant milestone marks a major step forward in sustainable yacht building. And the realisation of one of the most revolutionary vessels in the yachting industry.

It utilised the largest single-shot infusion process ever attempted in the yachting industry.  Resin was infused into dry fiberglass and coring materials under vacuum pressure. The result is a hull that both lighter and stronger than traditional builds.  And is also environmentally responsible, significantly reducing volatile organic compound emissions.

Thomas Carey, is Project Manager at Ocean Independence.  He said, “This isn’t merely about scale.  It’s about precision engineering at its finest.” He added “With the hull unmoulded, on first inspection, the surface finish has exceeded expectations.  Even before final preparation for paint.”

The unmoulding operation spanned two weeks and demonstrated Sunreef’s technical prowess and dedication to quality. The process involved methodical disassembly of the reusable mould in sections.

Precise choreography

This precise choreography highlights Sunreef’s innovative approach to modular construction, which allows elements of the yacht to progress simultaneously and be delivered nearly completed and just in time.

With the hull unmoulded, the Sunreef 43M Eco enters a new phase of accelerated construction. Sunreef’s modular approach enables concurrent work on bulkheads, technical systems, interiors, and decks, streamlining the timeline while maintaining precision. “The efficiency of the build process now becomes evident,” says Carey. “What began as comprehensive design discussions two years ago is now materialising at an impressive pace. The shipyard’s approach allows us to progress multiple aspects simultaneously, and it’s our job to bring every element together.”

Extreme latitudes

Captain Jim Thom, has an extensive experience sailing in extreme latitudes. It aligns perfectly with the Owner’s adventurous vision. He is also closely involved in the project. “The electric systems make this yacht something special,” he notes. “The environmental benefits are profound. And the silence under power and at anchor will add another dimension to the experience in remote destinations.”

Beyond construction, Captain Jim Thom is preparing the yacht for its future operations.  He is ensuring every detail is aligned with the Owner’s ambitious plans for global exploration. “We’re getting all the details right early,” he adds. “Tender, toys, equipment—it’s all being lined up well ahead of completion.”
