Amazon supremo Jeff Bezos has commissioned his own Super Sailing Yacht that will be built at Oceanco

He has, in the past, chartered the superyachts Rising Sun owned by entertainment mogul David Geffen and Eos the three-masted Bermuda rigged schooner and one of the largest private sailing yachts in the world.  Eos is owned by movie and media billionaire Barry Diller, along with his wife, fashion designer; Diane von Fürstenberg.

Eos

Now, according to an excerpt from Brad Stone’s forthcoming book, “Amazon Unbound”, Jeff Bezos the Amazon CEO has commissioned his own 127-metre custom built sailing superyacht from the Dutch shipbuilder Oceanco.

Bezos and his girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez were spotted earlier this year aboard another superyacht in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico but the identity of that yacht has not been confirmed.

Bezos, reportedly the richest person in the world with a fortune worth $193 billion US dollars has not owned a superyacht before this, despite an obvious fondness for the superyacht life.  Reports that he was the owner of the 400 million dollar superyacht Flying Fox were found to have no substance.

Flying Fox

Rumours that Flying Fox belonged to Bezos have circulated since 2017, when the Lürssen yacht-building company began construction on what was referred to as Project Redwood.  Those rumours gained gcredence when Flying Fox was photographed at anchor off Datça, in Turkey and the journalist Yashar Ali tweeted that it belonged to Bezos.  Ali later deleted the tweet after Amazon announced that it did not know who owned the yacht.  (She is in fact owned by the Russian businessman Dmitry Vladimirovich Kamenshchik.)

Details about the Bezos three-masted sailing yacht are sparse as you would expect when Oceanco are the builders.  But insiders have reported she is build number Y721 and when completed in 2022 is expected to be “one of the finest sailing yachts in existence.”  Inside information suggests she will have accommodations for 18 guests who will be served by a crew of 40.  Her design and appearance are said to owe much to Eos the sailing boat that has already been mentioned above.

Bezos has also reportedly commissioned the build of a smaller, support vessel that will shadow his own superyacht.  She is expected to follow the current toy carrier role and assets will include a helipad. Bezos’ girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez, is known to be a helicopter pilot and there have been reports that Bezos has taken flying lessons as well.  Inside information indicates that she is probably the SeaAxe; hull number YS7512 a 75 metre vessel of 1900gt that is capable of carrying 45 staff, crew and owners guests and is currently inbuild at Damen.

Bezos announced recently that he will step down as Amazon’s CEO in the third quarter of 2021.  Andy Jassy, the CEO of AWS, will take his place. Bezos said at the time that while he plans to stay involved in important initiatives at Amazon as its executive chairman, his goal is to spend more time on philanthropy – including the Bezos Earth Fund and his Day One Fund – as well as his two other major endeavours: The Washington Post, which he purchased 2013, and his rocket company, Blue Origin.
