The Chief Stewardess serving on board the superyacht La Polonia has fallen to her death.
In what appears to have been a tragic accident Rebecca Boyle had returned to her yacht berthed in Imperia following a evening ashore where she and fellow crew were celebrating the English football teams win over Columbia
Ms Boyle, 32 from Notting Hill, in west London, is thought to have broken her neck after a fall later that night. She was discovered in her cabin the next morning after she failed to turn up for breakfast in the crew mess.
Rebecca had only recently joined La Polonia as Chief Stewardess and had worked on several yachts over the past few years. She was seen the night before the accident on board Dynamic a neighbouring yacht and there are eye witness reports on her being unsteady while getting into that yachts spa pool
Raising the alarm after discovered her body was discovered in her cabin crew mates alerted Italian paramedics.
Locally Police have said they are interviewing witnesses and are treating her death as “unexplained” buy they say they “cannot rule out third party involvement”.
Police confirmed they began investigating the death of Rebecca Boyle when Prosecutors in Imperia opened a file on the case.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has issued a statement saying: ‘We are supporting the family of a British woman following her death in Italy, and are in contact with the Italian emergency services about the incident.’
Registered in Valetta Malta and built in 1999 by Swiftships in the USA as Cherosa the yacht is now called La Polonia. The 47 metre semi displacement motor yacht, designed by Tim Borland has a top speed is 20 knots and a maximum cruising range of 3000nm at 18 knots she carries a crew of 7 to look after her guest complement of 10 in accommodation designed by created by Jack Franzen & Associates.
