The Isle of Man Ship Registry is in the process of recruiting a suitable Deputy Director to take over from Dave Morter, the long-standing incumbent.
Morter has now left the Ship Registry to pursue an alternative and exciting challenge as Director of Motorsport.
The TT races are very important to the Isle of Man and Morter hopes to make sure it continues to be a successful global event.
The job description asks that the new Deputy Director will need to make sure all of the registry’s reporting frameworks comply in all respects with IMO requirements and that our status at IMO is kept up to date on their GISIS system.
It makes no mention of dodging metaphorical bullets fired by EU executives keen to hunt down tax dodges highlighted in the Paradise Papers.
The new Deputy Director will work closely with the Director in shaping the future of the organisation to ensure its continued success.
He or she will have a proven track record in performance management, and financial and business planning with the experience and energy to drive innovation in systems and change within a high performing team. As an ISO 9001:2008 accredited organisation, the creation of a consistent, pragmatic and supportive regulatory environment is as important as the delivery of responsive, courteous and high quality services to its global clients.
Deputising for the Director, the individual will require maritime credentials, excellent interpersonal skills and the confidence and passion to represent the Isle of Man at international fora as a regulator, and in promotional events to ensure the Isle of Man’s international reputation is upheld.
Over his 11 years as Deputy Director, Dave Morter put a great deal into making the Ship Registry what it is today. He has been instrumental in the design and implementation of the MAVIS operating system, which is at the heart of everything we do. He has also constantly developed it to stay abreast of international regulatory changes and changes in our operating model.
The latest incarnation now successfully provides on-line STCW applications with self-print at the point of application. This is a major step forward in electronic certification, which we are now extending to all statutory certificates with Class Societies which are set up to do this.
