Portsmouth based Magma Structures has entered the marine repair and refit market and have been hired to work on the refit of the superyacht, Lady A now owned by Lord Sugar the man who hires and fires in BBC TV’s The Apprentice

Built in 1986 in Japan with interior and exterior styling by Jon Bannenberg the superyacht Lady A is to say the least an old lady and probably in need of a refit.

Known in previous lives as Southern Cross III, Emihar Chios and Indian Princess the vessel arrived at Trafalgar Wharf in Portchester in September 2015 where she is now undergoing such a project over a ten month period.

The project is being directly managed by the owner’s team, with Burgess Marine acting as primary contractor in partnership with Shemara Refit, design and naval architecture support is being supplied by Houlder Engineering. Magma Structures are providing structural design engineering and composite expertise for specific aspects of the project.

Magma Structures are providing structural design and engineering expertise to enable the installation of larger stabilizers to the custom built 55m motor yacht. In addition the Magma Structures’ team of composite design engineers and manufacturers are assisting with modifications to the stern gear and rudders of the GRP motoryacht.

This is one of a number of recent projects in which Magma Structures are supporting the refit, modification and design and manufacture of composite parts for superyacht refits.
