The Bangkok Post newspaper is today reporting a story regarding the loss of life on board a superyacht.
According to the newspaper the fatal incident occurred on board the Cayman Islands-flagged, 140 metre, Ocean Victory during a routine anchoring procedure.
The yacht was anchoring at Koh Tachai in the Mu Ko Similan National Park when an as yet unnamed 31-year-old Bulgarian crew member was critically injured when the anchor chain wrapped around his legs above the knees.
An officer in the Royal Thai Coastguard is quoted as saying, “The force was so great as to almost severe his legs. The man lost a lot of blood and was in a critical condition when he arrived at Tablamu pier in Phangnga’s Thai Muang district on the yacht’s speedboat.”
The crewman succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Bangkok Hospital Phuket.
Locally the Tourist Police have said they will contact the Bulgarian embassy to inform the man’s family
