Are You Ready for the ARC, one of Sailing’s Bucket List Events?

Join the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers, better known as the ARC and experience 2700 miles of down wind, blue water, trade wind sailing from Las Palmas in the Canary Islands to St Lucia in the Caribbean.

You can only imagine how good the rum will taste on arrival!

Flying Fish are offering a chance to sailing across in their yacht Calypso

The ARC starts from Las Palmas in the Canary Islands and sails across nearly 2,700 miles of ocean on the trade wind route to finish at Rodney Bay, St Lucia, in the Caribbean.

The event is for everyone, with over 200 yachts and 1,200 people from around the world taking part.

Families with children, tough racers, cruising couples, big boats and modest boats: all crossing the Atlantic together, each having their own adventure.

As we found when we sailed in one of the early events ourselves It is much more than just a boat race, the ARC is about friendships made ashore in the pre-departure activities, continued over the radio net at sea and firmly consolidated in the beach party atmosphere on arrival in St Lucia.

The key to success in an event like this is preparation. With the Flying Fish programme preparation begins with five days of crew training in the warm waters around Las Palmas.

It focuses on yacht preparation, safety drills and race training, ensuring the yacht and crew are fully prepared for the challenge ahead.

On race day the fleet sails out of Las Palmas into the Atlantic Ocean. Participants can expect to head south to lower latitudes, searching for the warm trade winds that will carry you all the way to the Caribbean.

Arrive in Rodney Bay, St Lucia is expected to sometime between 9th and 14th December.

Every boat is welcomed to Rodney Bay Marina with rum punch, fresh fruit and chilled beer. No matter what time of day or night, the welcome party will be ready for you!
