Sir Russell Coutts the CEO of the America’s Cup Event Authority (ACEA), the organizing body for the 35th America’s Cup was a guest of honour at the Perini Navi Cup.
He spoke to owners and crews of the Perini Navi sailing superyachts and extended to them a warm welcome from Bermuda as he suggested they consider sailing there to witness the Americas Cup in 2017
Russell Coutts is a five-time winner of the America’s Cup, including three times as skipper, where he has a perfect 14-0 record on the water.
Coutts worked with Larry Ellison, the principal of the defending champion ORACLE TEAM USA, to modernize the television broadcasts of America’s Cup racing to a level where they are as good, or better, as that of any other major sport. The broadcasts for the last America’s Cup were recognized with an Emmy award.
In his role as CEO of the ACEA, Coutts’ goal for this America’s Cup is to increase value for all stakeholders – teams, the venue, commercial partners and broadcasters – while delivering fair and compelling sport on the water.
“This is going to be the best America’s Cup yet,” Coutts says. “We have the teams, the partners, the broadcasters and in Bermuda we have a striking venue, on which to build to a successful event.
“Not only will we have great competition, but I predict more people are going to watch this edition than any previous America’s Cup.”
