Setting Sail with One Ocean Expeditions

Akademik Ioffe from one of her Zodiac tenders at anchor off Englishtown

The islands of Canada’s Atlantic Maritime Provinces feature a rich and diverse culture, found in small fishing communities and remote out ports.

We are about to cruise the area on board the 117 metre Akademik Ioffe a Russian flagged research vessel operated by One Ocean Expeditions a Canadian based expeditions organiser.

The company is best known for its trips through the ice of the polar regions and recently made headlines worldwide when another of its ships played an important part in the finding of the wreck of HMS Erebus one of two British Royal Navy ships that foundered while searching for the North West Passage.

We are grateful to Destination Canada, Air Canada and ship operators One Ocean Expeditions for kindly hosting us on this trip
