The family of Jacob Nicol the deckhand injured when he fell from the side of the yacht Kibo have set up a GoFundMe page to help fund medical and legal costs.
Jacob, from Wadebridge in Cornwall, is currently a patient at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, Shropshire, where his sister, Jenade Moon lives with her husband Chris.
His mother Chrissie Long, a health and safety officer, has put her house in Cornwall on the market and has moved to Shropshire so she can by him as he begins his long road to partial recovery.
Doctors at the Son Espases Hospital in Palma cared for the deckhand for 10 days before he was repatriated to England. Their patient was in a coma throughout and they have been reported as saying his chances of a full recovery are almost impossible.
Those who knew Nicol and would like to donate money to his fund can do so at http://www.gofundme.com/justiceforjacob
Yacht managers Y.CO have already stated that they are continuing to provide post-incident support to all parties, and are working closely with the vessel’s insurers and Owners to coordinate the full coverage of immediate and ongoing medical expenses to the crew member involved, and financial assistance to enable his family to remain by his side.
It has been reported in the Daily Mail that this even includes paying the mortgage on his mothers home.
