The Sani Cup is a new Match Racing series that will this year, feature some of the best-known Greek and European sailors from 1st – 3rd May 2015 at Sani Resort’s Marina.

As a result guests staying at Sani over this May bank holiday period will be able to enjoy a sailing spectacle like never before, along the lines of Cowes week and other high-end sailing regattas.

Match racing is a one-to-one race of speed between identical, one-design boats, whichever boat crosses the finish line first is deemed the winner.

A Match Race has special rules that differ in some respects to those of conventional competitive fleet racing. Umpires continually follow the racing boats at a close distance to call and impose penalties in case of direct and instantaneous fouls.

Every match lasts approximately 20 minutes and therefore all teams compete against each other in rotation. With identical boats and weather conditions applying for all competitors, with a small and narrow race course only 100m offshore, with many buoys and, most of all, extremely strict rules, there is no denying that a Match Race winner is truly a first-class sailor.

Basking in the sunshine on the shores of the Kassandra peninsula, mainland Greece, Sani Resort is a family owned and privately developed hideaway set on a 1000 acre ecological reserve.

It comprises four hotels: the Sani Beach Club, Sani Beach Hotel, Porto Sani Village and Sani Asterias Suites, three exclusive Sani spa venues, with a marina at the heart; alive with restaurants, cool bars, designer boutiques and art galleries.
