In the south of France the area requiring compulsory pilotage around Cannes, Nice and Villefranche-sur-Mer has been extended over a distance of three miles off the coast of the department of the Alpes-Maritimes.
The previous zone of compulsory pilotage has been extended eastward up to the Cap d’Antibes, where piloting becomes compulsory for any commercial vessel of more than 50m (164′) and any type of vessel of more than 80m (262′). Additionally, all types of vessels of more than 50m (164′) need piloting in the Villefranche-sur-Mer to St Laurent area.
The pilotage areas are now defined as follows:
For vessels destined for the port of Nice and the ports of Villefranche-sur-Mer and Saint Hospice, the compulsory pilotage area is bounded on the West by the meridian 007° 10’E, to the East by the meridian 007° 24’E and South by the parallel 43° 36’N.
For vessels destined for the port of Cannes and anchorages in the harbor of Cannes, the compulsory pilotage area is bounded on the West by the meridian 006° 59’E, to the East by the meridian 007° 07,3’E and South by the parallel 43° 29’N.
