Ironshore enters the yacht insurance sector

Based out of new offices in Tampa, Florida Insurance brokers Ironshore are to enter the large yacht market handling super yachts on a global basis providing cover for motor and, sailing yachts of all sizes at the same time as supporting the firms’s Personal Lines business for high net worth homeowners.

The yacht insurance market has slowed over past years due to the economic slowdown, but the firm believes this underserved specialty sector presents potential growth opportunities, and that now is a good opportunity to test the water.
James G. Bishop, Jr., will lead the unit.  Overall he has some 25 years of experience in the marine insurance business with more than ten years spent underwriting yacht insurance with ACE, and five of those years concentrating in the super yacht sector. As the company’s Senior Premier Underwriter, he focused on yachts of up to $75million in hull value with worldwide navigation capabilities.
His broad industry knowledge of the marine sector was acquired through a variety of roles within the broader recreational boating industry.

Outside of his life in the insurance business he has organised yacht deliveries on sail and powerboats, crewing on private yachts, managing tour boat operations, and working within the U.S. and Caribbean for one of the world’s leading yacht charter companies.
