Dawsons Scoops Award for Super Yacht AV Installation

The Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) is an organisation of experienced companies involved in the design and installation of electronic systems.
Established in 2006, their CEDIA Awards celebrate each year, excellence in technology design, installation and integration
This year’s awards ceremony attracted over 160 remarkable submissions from 15 different countries, representing a 61% increase on entries compared to the previous year with Dawsons the Dorset based audio visual company scooping 2 of the coveted awards for their work aboard super yachts.
Dawsons, won ‘Best Marine Installation’ for the second year running. This builds on previous accolades in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012, firmly establishing them in the field of innovative audio-visual solutions for the luxury yacht market.
The pioneering audio-visual design and installation aboard the 40 metre Imperial Princess provides a bespoke multi-cabin wireless system utilising a wide range of products tailored especially for the yacht’s internal and external areas.
The audio-visual specification called for Denon Blu-ray receivers with Linn speakers, Velodyne subwoofers and Kaleidescape movie server. All of which are operated through a Crestron iPad control system.
The Crestron iPad interface was custom designed by Dawsons’ and provides an intuitive level of audio control that allows guests to create a personalised environment within their cabins. The system also contains bespoke firmware which guests can use to adjust the air conditioning and lighting within the cabin. The Captain has access to all cabins from his iPad and can globally set temperatures and lighting if required ahead of his guest’s arrival.
Each cabin features its own Denon iPod dock and Apple iPod Touch along with a Denon Blu-ray receiver, which is paired with the superb Linn 104/106 in ceiling speakers and Velodyne subwoofers. The Sky deck is equipped with a removable TV and an additional iPod controller allowing users to control the Kaleidescape zone player and enjoy movies and music from the central server. The audio is reproduced in external areas by a variety of Speakercraft flush mounted speakers and subwoofers, driven from Dawsons’ unique IcePower amplifiers providing exceptional sound quality free from distortion.
The entire installation provides outstanding picture and sound quality, carefully considered for the ease of use for both the owner and guests. The design is ‘invisible’ within the interior design by Bannenberg & Rowell / Princess design team.
