Outside Asia, no matter where you start from, the Maldives Islands are a long haul destination and when we say long we mean it.
Our two hour drive to Heathrow was followed by a seven hour flight from London and saw us fly through the night to land in Muscat the capital of Oman at what was 4:30 am in the UK.
A three hour wait for our connection, meant we had been travelling for 14 hours before we boarded the Oman Air Boeing 737 for the penultimate part of the journey. After a three and half hour flight we finally arrived in Male.
From there our transport became a little more exciting!
We boarded a DHC-6-400 type Twin Otter Seaplane operated by Trans Maldivian Airways to fly to our resort.
Having been on the road, in the air and waiting in airport lounges for a total of 21 hours, it goes without saying we were delighted to finally arrive at our resort.
The welcome we received at the Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru made it all worth while.
We have arrived in the Republic of the Maldives for what will be a ten day tour of the most luxurious of top resorts including a 4 day inter island voyage aboard Explorer.
Stay with us as we share our journey with you.
