On April 15, 2013, Doyle New York will auction important jewelry, timepieces and objets de vertu from the Estate of Consuelo Vanderbilt Earl (1903-2011).
One of the highlights is a rare artifact from the Alva, the 1931 yacht commissioned by her father, William K. Vanderbilt, Jr.
It is an 18 kt. gold cocktail tray and twelve 18 kt. gold cordial glasses by Tiffany & Co. The tray and glasses are each engraved “Alva 1931” and the glasses are additionally engraved “Ara 1924.”
Alva was one of the world’s first super-yachts at 265 feet. She circumnavigated the globe on her maiden voyage in 1931.
|Ara launched in 1924|
The yacht Ara was launched in 1924 by Mr. Vanderbilt.
The tray and Glasses are to be sold as separate lots. Estimates for the tray suggest it will sell between US$ 125,000 and US$ 175,000 while the glasses could fetch up to US$ 60,000
