The Sea-Alliance Group, head quartered in Gibraltar, has delivered its annual end of season report with an encouraging view of 2013 despite a challenging year in the brokerage market.
Group director Roy Klajman stated, “We have seen in 2012 a very strong market in chartering of quality yachts with several of our managed yachts recording record years and full seasons. Interestingly many of the charterers have been potential buyers of brokerage yachts previously, who have taken the year to continue their enjoyment of yachting without the total commitment needed to finance purchases.
“However the busy season, bringing limited availability of the better yachts has clearly shown that charter is an economically viable way to maintain ownership resulting in our sales enquiries being unprecedented at both Cannes and Monaco Yacht Shows. We are therefore extremely encouraged by this activity and see 2013 as a turning point in the market. This improvement will however depend on our ability to encourage current owners to modify their asking prices to reflect market value.
“Fortunately we have a number of realistic owners and have been able to effect substantial reductions in our headline brokerage yachts already and we are seeing other brokers taking a similar approach in order to kick start the market.”
