Superyacht Captain Tells about Filming 007 in Skyfall

Fresh from shooting scenes for the up and coming James Bond movie Skyfall, we caught up with the yacht’s Captain.

It was aboard his 56 metre sailing yacht Regina that several scenes were shot.
Captain Yusuf Kalmaz told us: “Shooting took part in the picturesque Turkish bays off Fethiye. It was the first time that I and the crew have hosted a really big production team on board, with different and, sometimes, quite unusual demands. And though we had very busy days, it was amusingly interesting. The highlight was sailing at half speed, when the yacht was shot in her all grace and beauty both from the air, the side and on the decks.
The yacht is managed by Pruva Yachts who told us:“One night the producers, Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli decided to have dinner on board Regina together with Dennis Gassner and Daniel Craig. There were about 20 guests and it was not planned in advance. However, they were very satisfied and enjoyed tasting the best courses of Turkish cuisine.
“Guest cabins were not used for filming however they were used as backstage areas for the actors and actresses.
“For the film the saloon was turned into the bedroom of Bérénice Marlohe and one of the bathrooms was used for a romantic interlude inside the shower!
“Some items had to be taken off the yacht for the film while other items were changed. The fabric on the sofas for example had to be changed for colour matching reasons and for the same reason the colour of the curtains were changed. On the aft and forward deck, the colour of the sun beds and sofas was changed to become red.  The film crew brought other props into the yacht and these included: souvenirs, bar utensils, mirror and low stools.  The saloon, which was used as a bedroom in the film, was completely transformed.
“The film crew spent 8 days on board for shooting but they did not sleep on board.  The boat was only used for filming. The Turkish Coast Guard shadowed us during the day to protect Regina and those on board. The film crew also had their own private guards with them.
“Our yacht management team at Pruva were in Fethiye for a few days, but it was not easy to speak to them as every moment was planned before in advance. Our own yacht crew also helped the film crew with various requests but apart from the Captain no one else from the ships staff was seen in the film.
“Daniel and the other artists really liked the yacht.  After shooting was completed we had several charter requests from famous artists, such as Salma Hayek and we know that Daniel Craig suggested the yacht to her.
Captain Yusuf said, “We feel very proud that the producers were satisfied with our job, and for us, it was a real pleasure to see one of the most professional filming teams in the world at work. It was definitely an unforgettable experience.
“We are all looking forward to the Skyfall premier.”
The yacht is for sale through Fraser Yachts for €11 million and available for charter with Pruva Yachts.
