This Week Us, Next week Dame Ellen MacArthur

On Sunday it was our turn to go sailing aboard the delightful and exciting 28 metre sailing yacht Dark Star.

Normally she is chartering in the Mediterranean through Dream Sailing but just recently she has been in British waters raising money for The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.

We had a delightful sail up and down the Solent stonking along at 10 or so knots in the company of three other couples.

After our sail we enjoyed a three course lunch with wines, devoured al fresco in the cockpit, around the huge dinning table, in the surprising sudden burst of warm sunshine.

So, while we went sailing last weekend, it is next weekend and the JP Morgan Around the Island Race that will see Dark Star getting all the attention.  Dame Ellen herself will be on board, taking the helm. With a bunch of kids recovering from cancer, she will guide Dark Star round the Isle of Wight.

We envy the crew meeting with sailing’s Dame and racing round the island. Bet the children have fun too.

Dark Star has so far raised over £3800 for the Ellen McArthur Cancer Trust but that sum will surely fade into the mist when compared to the life experiences those kids will get next Saturday.

We wish them all Good Luck and Fair Winds

  1. We were delighted to take you for a sail and so glad the sun shone in time for lunch. We’re hoping that rarely seen yellow ball in the sky shows itself on Saturday, but I’m sure the young people sailing aboard Dark Star will have the time of their lives no matter what the weather!
