You are cordially invited to

With the Fort Lauderdale Boat show the next big event in SuperYacht circles there is not a day goes by without receiving an invitation to this or that evening event.

Where however, at the  Monaco Yacht Show, people were asking us to attend their stand, yacht or Restaurant to eat and drink, it was clear I was being invited as a guest.

Not so the Americans who think it is perfectly acceptable to invite us to attend an event and then only when you look again at the invitation, you realise you are not being treated at all, but are, in fact, being invited to buy a ticket for some event.

In my book, that is not an invitation at all, it is a request or a sales pitch to give my money away.

Why cannot people use English correctly?
