The Professional Yachtsman’s Association (PYA) is strongly advising all seagoing members to download a report issued by the MAIB, following a fatal accident and discuss the contents with their fellow crew. They urge superyacht Captains to discuss the implications of the report and ascertain if their own practices and procedures are adequate.
The report concerns the accidental killing of a child who fell off a “banana boat” and was subsequently killed when the towing boat ran over her.
The primary cause of the accident was the lack of an observer in the towing boat but the MAIB report makes a number of important points which are highly relevant to all superyacht crew who operate water toys.
Thanks for sharing that accident information..
