Isle of Man demonstrates continued growth in the superyacht sector

The recently released Isle of Man Ship Registry’s Annual Report demonstrates continued growth in the yachting sector
The annual report for 2010 can be downloaded in full from:
But here are the report’s top lines:
· The Isle of Man has the fastest growing ship registry in Europe and the fourth fastest in the world
·  The number of commercial yachts has reached an all-time high, with 98 vessels registered
·  The Isle of Man has registered 340 pleasure yachts, second only in numbers to merchant vessels
·  The Registry has taken a proactive approach towards adopting the Maritime Labour Convention, which means that commercial yachts will have to ensure a minimum living space on board. Successful trial inspections have taken place and all Isle of Man surveyors are fully trained in the new MLC code.
Dick Welsh, director of the Isle of Man Ship Registry said: “2010 was another very successful year for the Ship Registry, despite continuing economic pressures globally which has meant a tough year for the shipping industry. “Our ability to react, to adapt and to anticipate the ever increasing speed of change in this dynamic world of shipping remains the most stimulating challenge, and ultimately provides the most satisfaction to our dedicated team. We are sure that this explains the continued success and growth of the Registry.”
