29 metre Motor Yacht founders on voyage to Cannes superyacht show
Mediterraneo, a brand new motor yacht owned by Luca Cordero di Montezemolo President of Ferrari and Fiat S.p.A has foundered on its way to the Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes.
The blue hulled Morgan 93 built by Aicon Yachts had been purchased by him at the Genoa Boat Show and was making her way to the Cannes Boat Show when the incident occurred.
After leaving Milazzo in Sicily the yacht encountered trouble some 35 miles south west of Palinuro when water rushed into the yacht. Her eight man crew raised the alarm issuing a Mayday message on VHF Channel 16 before taking to the liferaft.
CP 814 an Italian Coastguard Cutter was dispatched to the scene but first to arrive was the commercial ship Joker Amaranth who gathered the crew to safety. No one was injured during the incident and the crew were later landed ashore in Palinuro by the coastguard cutter
