A Canterbury chef’s double awards success could boost campervan tourism to the historic city in 2026. Moreover, it may attract more food-loving motorhome travellers to east Kent for culinary short breaks.
Double Win for Canterbury Chef Dev Biswal
Dev Biswal, owner-chef of The Cook’s Tale and Cafe Marrakech, has won two major national awards. In addition, his food tour company, The Cook’s Adventures, also took home top honours. The awards were presented at the 10th Asian Food & Restaurant Awards, held at London’s Dilly Hotel. Biswal won National Chef of the Year, while The Cook’s Adventures secured the Culinary Tourism Award.
Boost for Campervan-Friendly Canterbury
The recognition should strengthen Canterbury’s appeal as a campervan-friendly destination.
As a result, more visitors may plan food-focused campervan breaks in Kent. Gastro tourists increasingly seek immersive experiences, including guided food tours and countryside exploration.

The Cook’s Tale also appears in the 2026 edition of Harden’s Best UK Restaurants. The guide praises its adventurous fusion cooking and vibrant flavours from Odisha, eastern India. It describes the food as consistently interesting, creative, and delicious.
An Impressive Awards Track Record
Biswal’s earlier accolades include Best Restaurant at the Taste of Kent Awards. He also won Best Indian Restaurant from Morrisons Magazine. Other honours include Best Restaurant in the Southeast from the Cobra Good Curry Guide. He has also received multiple Asian Chef of the Year titles and tourism excellence awards.
Biswal’s latest venture, Cafe Marrakech, opened in November to strong early reviews. Located at 13 Rosemary Lane, Canterbury, it celebrates Moroccan hospitality and traditional cooking.

The menu features slow-cooked tagines, charcoal-grilled meats, and hand-rolled couscous. Guests can also enjoy fresh khobz bread, vibrant salads, and classic desserts like basbousa.
Culinary Tours with Campervan Appeal
Biswal’s passion for North African cuisine inspired new destinations for his food tours. His company now offers small-group culinary experiences across the UK and overseas. These tours appeal strongly to campervan travellers seeking local food and cultural immersion.

Dishes at The Cook’s Tale showcase sustainable local produce. All ingredients come from within 30 minutes of the kitchen. This approach supports local suppliers while enhancing authenticity.
Canterbury Culinary Pilgrimages
Canterbury Experiences offers tailored culinary pilgrimages across the region. The programme works closely with campsites, local partners, and Visit Canterbury. As a result, it suits campervan travellers exploring Kent’s countryside and food scene.
