China Targets Budget Buyers With Half-Price Campervan

Chinese brands keep pushing into Western markets. They now target the fast-growing demand for ready-made campervans.

LDV has launched the Deliver 9 campervan in Australia. It arrived there at almost half the price of a similar VW Crafter camper. The new model undercuts its rivals by tens of thousands of dollars. No one yet knows when Europe will see it.

The campervan uses the long-wheelbase, high-roof Deliver 9. It measures 5,940 mm long and 2,925 mm tall. LDV adds bold grey-and-red graphics, a rooftop air-conditioning unit, and a retractable awning. The result stands out on any campsite.

Inside

Open the sliding door and step inside via electric side steps. A fly-screen keeps insects out. The interior feels like a compact apartment on wheels.

The kitchen includes a sink, fridge, freezer, microwave, and induction cooktop. A small door leads to the bathroom, which has an indoor shower. LDV also adds an external shower for warm-weather use.

Two swivel seats and a stowable table form the front dining area. A rear bench supports the layout. At the back, a double bed assembles in under a minute. It also clears space for access through the rear doors. The camper sleeps two, unless someone can use the front bench.

Power, Water, and Off-Grid Ability

LDV powers the living systems with a 2.56 kWh lithium-ion battery. A 190-watt solar panel tops it up. Fresh and grey water each use 100-litre tanks. A 16-litre tank handles waste.

A 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine drives the rear wheels. It produces 145 hp and 375 Nm of torque through a six-speed automatic gearbox. The fuel tank holds 80 litres. Towing capacity reaches 2,800 kg, which suits boats or bike trailers.
