American Cruise Lines has announced the construction of ten new U.S.-built ships, beginning with American Pioneer, launching on 31 October 2025. This marks the second Patriot Class vessel introduced this year and signals major expansion for the company.
The remaining nine ships will enter service by 2028, reinforcing American Cruise Lines’ commitment to modernising and growing the U.S. cruise market. Each vessel will sail domestically, covering key regions including the Mississippi River, Alaska, and the East Coast.

The ten new ships will also expand into emerging destinations such as the Great Lakes, the Arkansas River, and National Parks cruises.
Legacy of American Innovation
American Cruise Lines operates the largest river cruise fleet in the United States, with 28 small ships exploring protected waterways nationwide. The company’s 50-year heritage focuses on authentic, home-grown cruising experiences.
It remains the only cruise operator in the world with a fully U.S.-flagged fleet. Guests can choose from more than 50 itineraries across nearly 40 states, with year-round sailings. Special extended cruises will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
Confidence in U.S. Market
The new orderbook shows the company’s faith in the U.S. market and its proven small-ship product. They plan to introduce one new vessel every four months, ensuring steady growth.

After American Pioneer’s debut, five new American Riverboats and four additional Patriot Class ships will follow. These vessels form part of the line’s ongoing Project Blue initiative, which includes American Patriot, launched in June 2025.

Spotlight on the New Patriot Class Ships
American Pioneer begins sailing the 16-day Grand Florida Coast & Keys cruise from Amelia Island to St. Petersburg. Both American Pioneer and American Patriot will operate Florida coastal itineraries through April 2026.
Four more Patriot Class ships: American Maverick, American Ranger, American Mariner, and American Navigator will enter service between 2026 and 2027. These vessels will sail East Coast routes from June 2026 through July 2027.

Each ship accommodates 130 guests and offers five decks, balcony suites, and elegant lounges. Amenities include a top-deck walking track, observation terrace, fitness centre, casual café, grand dining room, and complimentary laundry facilities.
The Next Generation of Modern American Riverboats
The company launched American Song in 2018, the first modern riverboat in the U.S. and a TIME Magazine “World’s Greatest Place.”
Since then, five more American Riverboats have joined the fleet, including American Serenade, named Cruise Critic’s Best New Riverboat of the Year in 2023.
In May 2026, American Encore will debut on the Columbia and Snake Rivers, followed by American Anthem in 2027 and American Grace in 2028. Two additional riverboats will follow later that year.
Each 180-guest riverboat features five decks, a glass atrium, private balconies, and a Signature Suite of up to 1,000 sq. ft. Guests will enjoy both casual and formal dining, multiple lounges, a top-deck walking track, fitness centre, and full elevator access.
