In what has been described as the most significant brokerage deal in history, the yacht brokerage house Edmiston represented both buyer and seller in the sale of the 119m RWD designed Feadship, Breakthrough.
The 119-metre Feadship, designed by RWD, now holds multiple records and redefines innovation in superyachting.
A Record-Breaking Superyacht
Breakthrough is the world’s first hydrogen fuel cell superyacht and the largest Feadship ever constructed.

She also ranks as the largest yacht delivered in the Netherlands and the most advanced yacht on the brokerage market.
Launched in May 2024 and delivered in May 2025, Breakthrough was known as Project 821.
Ownership
It has been widely reported that Bill Gates was the commissioning owner having ordered it from Feadship. Bu reports confirm he never boarded the yacht, and its ownership remained unclear.
Breakthrough was sold in an exclusive in-house brokerage deal.
The seller was represented by Jamie Edmiston, while Alex Busher represented the buyer.
Industry reports identify Canadian billionaire Patrick Dovigi as the new owner.
“Closing this in-house deal is a milestone for Edmiston and the wider industry,” said Alex Busher, buyer’s representative.

Chief Executive Jamie Edmiston, who represented the seller, added: “Our firm was there at the inception of Breakthrough.”
He continued, “We proudly continue her legacy as exclusive central agent for her charter introduction.”
Engineering Innovation and Sustainability
Designed by RWD with naval architecture by De Voogt, Breakthrough marks a turning point in sustainable superyachting.
She uses hydrogen fuel cells to power all hotel loads, ensuring emission-free cruising at anchor and during slow navigation.
When hydrogen is unavailable, Breakthrough can operate on methanol fuel or hybrid diesel-electric generators with biofuel-ready MTU gensets.
Luxury Features
Onboard amenities highlight her villa-style living concept.

These include 14 balconies, seven fold-out platforms, and an 8.2-metre glass-bottom infinity pool.
Guests also enjoy an underwater observation lounge, a large atrium with glass elevator, and expansive entertaining spaces.
Why This Sale Matters
The transaction sets a new benchmark for sustainable luxury and highlights Edmiston’s strength in the global brokerage market.
The sale has been called “the most significant brokerage deal in history,” due to Breakthrough’s size, technology, and novelty.
Following the sale, Breakthrough will be available for charter through Edmiston, opening her innovations to the charter market.
