Yes it’s time to get ready for Spectacular Saturday evening entertainment now that Battle Proms have released this year’s dates.

  • Burghley House, Lincolnshire, Saturday 12 July
  • Hatfield Park, Hertfordshire, Saturday 19 Jul
  • Highclere Castle, Hampshire, Saturday 2 August

Britain’s most patriotic family event will return this year to four stately homes dotted across England.

Celebration

The Battle Proms Picnic concerts are musical celebration with fireworks, Spitfire, parachutes, swing dancing, vintage delights, cannons and cavalry!

These outdoor picnic concerts are held at historic venues across the UK. They celebrate British heritage with a mix of orchestral performances.   Pieces like Beethoven’s Wellington’s Victory and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, are accompanied by live cannon fire.

The concerts also feature Spitfire flypasts, cavalry displays, and a grand firework finale.

These events typically take place in the summer at stately homes such as Blenheim Palace and Highclere Castle, offering a unique mix of music, history, and entertainment in a relaxed outdoor setting.

Many attendees bring picnic blankets, food, and drinks to enjoy the show.  MotorCaravanners book nearby campsites so as to make a special weekend.

Prestigious venues

Established in 1997, they take place in Oxfordshire, Lincolnshire, Hertfordshire and Hampshire at some of England’s most prestigious venues.

The Battle Proms are the longest running picnic proms series in the UK and welcomes around 40,000 visitors every summer.

But that does mean popular sites get booked up quickly.  That means if you want a pitch you had best get a move on.

Hatfield Park

The Proms at Hatfield Park, Herefordshire, take place on Saturday 19 July.

The Hatfield Park Battle Proms picnic concert takes place in the Queen Elizabeth Oak Field. It was here that the young Queen Elizabeth I heard that she was to be Queen of England. Or at least that’s the legend!

The Old Palace at Hatfield House is where Elizabeth I spent much of her childhood.  And later held her first Council of State in November 1558. The celebrated Jacobean House has been the family home to the Cecils. They built it in 1611. A place so steeped in history makes the perfect setting for a summer celebration with the Battle Proms.

Blenhiem Palace

The Proms at Blenheim take place on Saturday 5 July

Blenheim Palace is situated in Woodstock, Oxfordshire.  It was the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, where his family lived for 300 years. Today, it is now a World Heritage Site. 

The Battle Proms takes place overlooking the iconic Column of Victory in the stunning Palace grounds.  There are over 2100 acres of formal gardens and ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped parkland to explore here.

Burghley House

The Proms at Burghley take place on Saturday 12 July

The Battle Proms at Burghley is held on an impressive elevated parkland position.  It overlooks the grand Elizabethan architecture of Burghley House. That makes it a perfect setting for an afternoon of sublime music and dramatic displays.

Burghley was built for Sir William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I, between 1558 and 1587. It has featured in movies such as The Da Vinci Code and Pride and Prejudice.  More recently it enjoyed the interest of Julian Fellowes as part of his ‘Great Houses’ series.

Highclere Castle

The Proms at Highclere take place on Saturday 2 August

Highclere Castle was the seat of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon.  It was he who, in 1922, famously discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun with his colleague Howard Carter. More recently, the Castle has become the central character in the ITV period drama ‘Downton Abbey.’ It achieved extraordinary international fame.
