Duty Free Fuel from Porto Montenegro

Porto Montenegro has reintroduced duty-free fuel for foreign private and commercial yachts in 2025.  Duty Free supply was discontinued in 2022 by Government decree.

The reversal of the decision reaffirms the marina’s position as a premier yachting destination in the Mediterranean. With the summer season fast approaching, this is the perfect opportunity for yacht owners and charter operators to plan their voyages to Porto Montenegro, the region’s leading refuelling and service hub.

Tony Browne, is the Marina Director at Porto Montenegro. He commented: “The reintroduction of tax-free fuel in Montenegro is a game-changer for yacht owners and operators. Not only does it offer cost savings, but it also positions Montenegro as the ultimate refuelling hub in the Adriatic. Porto Montenegro is proud to welcome yachts of all sizes and provide duty free fuel.”

Set to optimise Mediterranean itineraries

The availability of tax-free fuel across Montenegrin ports is set to optimise Mediterranean itineraries. It makes Montenegro an essential stopover for the global yachting community. Porto Montenegro, with its state-of-the-art facilities and capacity to host yachts of all sizes, is the region’s premier choice for refuelling. Complementing this is the nearby Adriatic 42 shipyard. It ensures seamless maintenance and service using expert craftsmanship and independent quality control.

The regulation has now taken effect following its publication in the Official Gazette of Montenegro.

Other ports that are providing duty-free fuel include, Portonovi, and Marina Bar. The process involves:

72-Hour Stay in Montenegro Waters

Yachts must remain in Montenegrin waters for at least 72 hours (excluding the day of arrival) before being eligible for duty-free fuel.

Immediate Departure After Fuelling

Yachts must leave Montenegrin waters immediately after fuelling to ensure the fuel is consumed outside Montenegro.

Regulated Return Timing

Yachts cannot return to Montenegro immediately after refuelling. Custom officials will determine the return timing based on fuel quantity and consumption rate.

There are also rules to follow:

Mandatory Agent Involvement

An agent is required for all duty-free fuel transactions. Inquiries without an agent will be directed to a list of authorised agents. Captains should notify us in advance about refuelling plans to avoid delays.

Prepayment and Pricing

Fuel pricing follows the official government rate. A Fuel Dock Usage Fee will apply, and prepayment is required to secure fuel quantities. Price quotes must be requested at least five days in advance.

With its stunning coastline, luxury amenities, and world-class service, Porto Montenegro continue to set the benchmark in the yachting industry. Now, with duty-free fuel reinstated, there has never been a better time to experience all that Montenegro has to offer.
