Going once, ….and ONLY once!

Going once but only once as a very special bottle of Refuge Manx Rum is auctioned off

The Fynoderee Distillery on the Isle of Man is auctioning off ‘Bottle No.1’ of its new, limited-edition Refuge Manx Rum for the benefit of the RNLI.  All proceeds from the auction of this bottle will be donated to the RNLI.  The auction itself will form part of the proceedings at the RNLI Isle of Man Gala Dinner.  That takes place during the evening of Friday 25th October. An occasion when all five stations come together to commemorate the Institute’s 200th anniversary.

Fynoderee Distillery Co-founder, Tiffany Kerruish said: ‘We are hoping that people will enjoy bidding for this very special piece of RNLI and Manx history. To enable as many people as possible to make a bid we have listed ‘Bottle 1’ on the website of local auctioneers Murray’s. Now anyone with access to the internet will be able to bid for this unique, signed ‘number 1’ bottle of Refuge Manx Rum!

Commemorative wooden box

‘The bottle will be beautifully presented in a custom-made commemorative wooden box. It includes a souvenir booklet detailing the Isle of Man’s role in the formation of the RNLI and the production story behind Refuge Manx Rum.  It features the stunning new label for Refuge Manx Rum designed by local artist Julia Ashby Smyth, and is also signed by her.’

The online auction is now live and can be visited here.

Shine a light on Manx origins

Refuge Manx Rum was created by The Fynoderee Distillery to shine a light on the Manx origins of the RNLI. And to mark 200 years since its formation by Sir William Hillary. The Ramsey-based distillery took 11 quarter-casks of scratch-made Manx Rum to barrel age inside the iconic Tower of Refuge. They left it there for one year during the RNLI bicentenary year.

Having now survived a year at sea on Conister Rock inside the Tower the rum is back ashore where it will be bottled, labelled and individually numbered at the distillery.

20% of the sales from every bottle will be donated to the RNLI. 2500 bottles are available for sale. Except for ‘Bottle 200’ which has been donated to, and will be retained by, the RNLI for their national archive.

Fermented and distilled by the Fynoderee Distillery from organic Colombian panela, Refuge Manx Rum is described as a light amber rum. It is naturally coloured and non-chill-filtered. Rich, smooth and imbued with the historic maritime atmosphere of the Tower, it has notes of toasted oak, vanilla, salted caramel and bourbon.

Outside of Bottles numbers 1 and 200, the remaining Limited Batch of Refuge Manx Rum can now be ordered from the distillery. For every bottle sold 20% of the purchase price will be donated to the RNLI.
