Superyacht Charities are seeking donations to support relief efforts in Carriacou.
Hurricane Beryl was the first of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season. To date it was the most powerful ever recorded.
The Grenadian islands of Carriacou and Petit Martinique sustained the most severe damage when Beryl made landfall. The Category 4 storm later saw its winds strengthen to a Category 5. About 11,000 people inhabit the two islands.
Support local efforts
The trustees will be heading to the island in September. They will support the local efforts with vital resources. Their presence will be essential in providing much-needed assistance. It will ensure that the community receives the help it needs during this urgent time.
A message from His Majesty The King sent a message following the devastation of Hurricane Beryl across the Caribbean. He said, “My family and I have been profoundly saddened to learn of the dreadful destruction caused by Hurricane Beryl across the Caribbean. Above all, we send our heartfelt condolences to the friends and families of those who have so cruelly lost their lives.
I have seen the extraordinary spirit of resilience and solidarity that people across the Caribbean have shown in response to such destruction. – A spirit which has been called upon too often. – And so I also send my particular gratitude to the emergency services and volunteers who are supporting the rescue and recovery efforts.
At this most difficult of times, please know that our most special thoughts and prayers are with all those whose lives, livelihoods and property have been so utterly devastated.
The Superyacht Charities will be donating £20,000 from their Cash4Causes fund to purchase equipment vital for the support mission. The charity is looking to raise an additional £20,000 by the end of August.
