Here is a chance to buy a slice of nautical history at a fraction of what it cost to rebuild.
The motor yacht Linmar is a prime example of living nautical history that earns her keep while chartering on the North west Pacific coast.
Based in Seattle the yacht has been lovingly rebuilt, restored and maintained and is now available at what seems to be a bargain basement figure.
Built in 1932 by New York Yacht, Launch and Engine, the 23.7 metre yacht was commissioned as a as a private, luxury cruising yacht by Howard Marlin of Marlin Firearms, a gun maker founded in the 1870s. Marlin produced a large assortment of firearms such as lever-action rifles, pump-action shotguns and single shot rifles and was considered by many as a serious competitor to Winchester.
for the first 73 years of her life Linmar cruised and was enjoyed along both coasts of North and Central America, taking guests through the Panama Canal to the Great Lakes and even into Alaska’s Inside Passage.
Disaster
Then in February 2006 disaster struck. Linmar, caught fire and was nearly lost. The entire hold deck and much of the superstructure was destroyed. Her hull burned through, crippling her structurally and leaving her a blackened void. Smoke wreaked havoc in every remaining space; permeating every timber, nook and cranny. Linmar was deemed a total loss and nautical history was about to be re written.
Experienced business owner and marine surveyor Kuhrt Wieneke purchased the charred remains from salvage in May 2006. Wieneke with his demonstrated history of working in the maritime industry set forth on a complete overhaul and restoration.
During this rebuild of nautical history the classic vessel benefitted from a redesigned layout below decks with 4 cabins and two full sized baths.
