The 74 metre expedition superyacht Legend has been sold by Y.Co
She was built in 1974 as an ice breaking tug for use with the Soviet Navy. They used her to clear passages for nuclear submarines making passage into and out of Russia’s ports.
That is the story at least!
We were part of her crew during her first rebuild to become the expedition yacht Giant. During that time we saw a lot of dodgy looking electronics removed. Back then it was suggested she might have had a more clandestine history that just breaking ice!
Rhubarb and Custard
Painted a ruby red with a cream superstructure Giant was rudely nicknamed Rhubarb and Custard by several charter brokers. They were offering her as a luxury charter yacht.
She was extensively rebuilt again in 2015. This time at Icon yachts in the Netherlands as a luxury expedition superyacht. She emerged from that yard as Legend. Now she is capable of carrying 26 guests in luxury. And she does so without losing her safety and strength as an icebreaker.
Since her re-launch, Legendhas cruised from Antarctica to Greenland and beyond.
Alongside the completion of the technical and system upgrades, extensive modifications to her exterior are being made. Her stern was extended by 3.6 metres and it was equipped with a swim platfor.
Helicopter
The helicopter landing pad has been commercially certificated and a submarine is frequently stored in a garage on the forward deck.
Both the helicopter and submarine are offered for charters at an extra cost.
She features a gym, a Balinese spa with sauna, jacuzzi and beauty salon. Add to that a movie theatre and entertainment system, medical suite, and a swimming pool. Oh yes and any toy you can imagine from paddle boards to jet-skis to snow scooters.
Legend’s interior configuration has been designed to comfortably sleep up to 26 guests in 13 cabins This includes a Master suite, two VIP suites, four double staterooms and six twin staterooms (some of them convertible).
29 Crew
She is capable of carrying up to 19 crew on board, plus an extra 10 expedition crew to include doctor, ice-pilot, expedition leaders and naturalists. All help ensure the most relaxed luxury yacht experience combined with the thrills of an unparalleled discovery adventure.
