Pentillie Castle and Estate is a family-run castle, wedding venue and 5 star hotel in Cornwall set in a 2,000 acre estate set on the bank of the River Tamar.
The Coryton family have owned Pentillie Castle since the early 1800’s and the present generation are a small but passionate team who take enormous pride in what they do.
They tell us that rather like chartering a superyacht the entire castle can be exclusively hired in its entirety.
For a 2 night fully-catered stay priced from £5,080.00 (£2,540 per night), with a minimum of 2 nights required.
This includes use of all 9 en-suite luxury bedrooms, plus the smaller 10th attic room with private bathroom, accommodating up to 20 guests and allowing a maximum of 4 additional little ones in cots or on blow-up mattresses in specific rooms.
Guests get the full run of the Castle’s games room, solar heated outdoor swimming pool, Aga kitchen and reception rooms.
The fully-catered package includes a hot buffet supper on the night of arrival, a full English breakfast each morning, a ploughman’s style lunch each day and a 3 course dinner each evening. Housekeeping is also included.
Pentillie Castle and its Estate has had a rich and varied past. It was originally built by Sir James Tillie in 1698, and was remodelled and enlarged significantly in 1809 by John Coryton.
In 1967, under the helm of Major Jeffrey Coryton, two thirds of the castle was demolished, returning it closer to its original 1698 footprint.
The original granite pillars, and brick arches of the 1698 build where once again allowed to feature as a major part of the façade.
Little wonder it is often used as the location backdrop for the TV series Delicious starring Dawn French, Iain Glen, Emilia Fox, Tanya Reynolds Sheila Hancock Ruairi, O’Connor and Kemi-Bo Jacobs
The current owners, Ted and Sarah Coryton, undertook another massive restoration project beginning in 2008, lovingly recapturing the castle’s former glory, while modernising it with the addition of en-suite bathrooms, extensive re-wiring and re-plumbing to ensure that the creature comforts expected today are at arm’s reach.
In May 2009, Pentillie Castle opened it’s doors to all, whether local businesses requiring a corporate space, couples looking for a wedding venue, travellers looking for somewhere fabulous to unwind, or the local community coming to enjoy the gardens or outdoor theatre in the stunning surroundings.
The family also support a number of local charities, in particular military charities, and host a group of recuperating military veterans and serving ranks for a week every year.
The estate just 20 minutes from Plymouth city centre, stretches over approximately 1,500 acres of undulating land in the heart of the Tamar Valley on the Cornwall & Devon border.
Extensive gardens, formal lawns, parkland and ancient woodland form the 55 acre backdrop to a wonderful location for boutique B&B stays, intimate weddings, shooting parties and other memorable events, both personal and public.
The work that’s gone in to this magnificent estate over the past few years means it’s once more a destination worthy of its grand reputation – and will be for years to come.
