The fourth new build of the Truly Classic series direct from the drawing boards of the Hoek design office in Holland is to be built by the British based shipyard Pendennis.
The news of the signing comes just a few weeks after the shipyard successfully delivered its first Hoek new build, SY Vijonara.
The signing marks the second occasion when the shipyard will build custom Hoek Truly Classic 128’ sailing yacht.
Andre Hoek said of the signing “We are proud to be involved in this project for a repeat client who previously owned a smaller yacht in the truly classic range. The great experience working with Pendennis on SY Vijonara has definitely had an influence in the decision to build again with them. Our office will be responsible for the naval architecture and interior design work and this will be the 37th yacht in the ever expanding truly classic range.”
Pendennis is one of Britains’s leading custom superyacht build and refit shipyards and has become one of Cornwall’s most important employers with over 450 highly skilled tradespeople based at the 10-acre prime waterfront location in Falmouth, UK.
The yard’s facilities include three bespoke-built construction halls (2x90m and 1x45m) alongside a 150m dry-dock, with the capacity for both new build and refit contracts for 30-100m superyachts.
The 640tonne travel hoist enables launching into the 7,564m² non-tidal wet basin which is purpose-built to accommodate superyachts of up to 100m. In 2018 Pendennis celebrates their 20th anniversary of the award-winning apprenticeship scheme, which has recruited over 220 apprentices into Pendennis throughout its history.
2018 also sees Pendennis celebrate its 30th anniversary since it was founded by Peter de Saveray.
This project coincidentally represents the 30th new build to come from the Cornish based shipyard.
Mike Carr, Managing Director at Pendennis added “We are extremely pleased to be partnering again with the Hoek Design team and MCM as the owner’s representative. Pendennis has continually invested in both its facilities and skills base over the last 30 years, enabling the company to grow into a global contender. Signing such a prestigious contract in this, our milestone year is a true testament to that. We are very proud to welcome this project into the Pendennis superyacht fleet.”
