Poole’s largest private employer and Britain’s Biggest Boat Builder, Sunseeker International, is looking to recruit 40 new Boat Building Apprentices to join the team at its shipyards.
From its manufacturing base in Dorset on the south coast of England, Sunseeker employs over 2,500 people and produces around 150 boats every year ranging from 15-40 metres.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to kick-start their career in the UK marine industry, learning to become highly skilled in a range of boat construction disciplines, through Sunseeker’s award-winning apprenticeship scheme.
Multiple learning pathways are on offer, comprising of; Carpentry, Composites, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Furniture Joinery. Taught over four years, the scheme provides paid attendance at the Bournemouth and Poole College’s Marine Technology Centre alongside on-the-job training at its Poole and Portland shipyards.
These new team members will learn the necessary craft skills from experienced Boat Builders to produce the level of quality and attention to detail that Sunseeker is known for. It really is a brilliant opportunity.

Earlier this year, two Sunseeker apprentices achieved royal recognition at the annual Worshipful Company of Shipwrights, Queens Silver Medal competition. Louis Castle, an Apprentice Marine Electrician, scooped top prize with Jacob Clarke, an Apprentice Marine Engineer, claiming the runner-up prize. Both Louis and Jacob have now progressed to the Test and Commissioning Team and International Warranty Team respectively.
Demand for the company’s larger models continues to grow year-on-year with more than 125 yachts over 100 feet in length already delivered.
