The Government of the Caribbean island of Grenada is to support a plan to expand and increase the number of berths available in Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina at the Southern Caribbean.
Located in the lagoon just outside St. George’s, the capital, Port Louis Marina provides a base from which to cruise the unspoilt Caribbean Paradise of Grenada and the Grenadines.
The marina overlooks the waterfront of the Carenage and has 160 berths for yachts up to 100 metres.
The ‘Spice Island’, as Grenada is known, lies south of the main hurricane belt, making it a popular destination for yachts and superyachts to berth during the Caribbean summer months.
The idea of additional berthing facilities and new pontoons at Port Louis Marina has been considered for some time and the new berths will complement the existing marina design and infrastructure.
Building of the new berths is due to start in 2019.
The expansion project for an additional 70 berths will see several million dollars of further investment. The new pontoons have been designed to provide flexibility in berthing a full range of yachts arriving in Grenada, which has seen record numbers of arrivals in recent years.
This includes superyachts, cruising yachts, local boats, charter yachts and the hosting of international sailing races and regattas, plus enjoyable family maritime events.
The additional development of Port Louis Marina further secures the promise of greater tourism links and associations for the whole island to benefit. The marina investment is testament to the ongoing ethos of Grenada to create more opportunity, greater global visibility and helping to grow Grenada as a Caribbean destination to visit and to invest.
Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina, with the support of the Government of Grenada will now begin the works to expand the pontoon structure within the marina. The planned expansion represents around a 50% increase in berthing capacity.
