Silver Cloud the 41 metre SWATH Explorer Yacht built by Abeking and Rasmussen [A&R] in Germany 10 years ago is for sale at US$28.5 million a price which her broker suggests is half what she would cost to build today.
We extensively toured the yacht and spent several enjoyable occasions on board with her owners and reported his exploits in magazine features
SWATH stands for Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull.
Silver Cloud, is the first luxury SWATH yacht ever built for a private owner.
She was originally designed and built to take on all sea conditions while ensuring the highest levels of comfort. Silver Cloud has proven to be the ultimate success story in reaching its goal of achieving impressive levels of stability and comfort while cruising.
This outstanding achievement was recognised by the yachting world when Silver Cloud received the Technology Award at the World Superyacht Awards in 2009.
Her current owners have circumnavigated the globe twice since that time exploring some remote and otherwise unreachable destinations in ultimate comfort.
The outstanding feature is smooth sailing in rough seas. A&R has perfected this design by building numerous SWATH ships for pilot service in the North Sea, an area known for very rough conditions.
The 80′ SWATH pilot boats can safely put pilots on and off ships in seas to 20 feet.
An added benefit to Silver Cloud’s twin hulls is the extensive space on board, equivalent to that of a much larger yacht evidenced by her Gross Registered Tonnage of 926. Silver Cloud has a bright, soothing interior which was designed by Kirschstein Designs LTD and Susan Schuyler Smith of Spectrum Designs.
The cheerful, panoramic main salon, located on the main deck, is an incredibly large and impressive space with several distinct zones including two dining areas and two lounge areas. An outside deck, with al fresco dining, connects with the salon via powered sliding glass doors providing easy indoor-outdoor flow.
Accommodations are for 12 guests in five cabins including the master, two king staterooms and two staterooms with full, twin and Pullman beds.
