With the 2017 MYBA Charter Show, taking place next week at OneOcean Port Vell in Barcelona, comes news of the annual MYBA Superyacht Chefs’ Competition.
The competition, sponsored by Sagittarius Spain and SuperYachtWorld magazine will be held from Monday 24 April to Wednesday 26 April.
The challenges have long been revealed and participating chefs will need to prepare a 3 course meal: seafood incorporating saffron, fish with rice and a NO sugar dessert. There will also be a tablescaping competition with the theme “Spring in Barcelona”, which is open to stewards and stewardesses of yachts with participating chefs.
Two of the judges that will be participating on the panel of judges are no strangers to the Competition. Coming back is Antonio Mellino, the two Michelin starred chef of the restaurant “Quattro Passi”, and a loyal supporter of MYBA The Worldwide Yachting Association not only at the Show but at many Association events during the year.
The second judge returning to the Show is Micail Swindells, one of the winners of the 2016 Competition. Micail was born in England, however, he moved to Jamaica at the age of five and spent his childhood there. It was Micail’s passion and drive for the latest flavours, style and techniques which led him back to London, where he worked in some of the finest Michelin star restaurants, including Texture, Smith of Smithfield’s and Orrery, until he navigated his way to the world of superyachts.
2017 also brings with it new entries. The ships agency BWA Yachting has secured, a remarkable team of Michelin-starred chefs for this year’s Competition. They are all stars in their own right and come to us from the restaurants of the acclaimed Adrià brothers, who already have a portfolio of five Michelin-starred restaurants in Barcelona.
Participating during the three days of competition will be:
- Fran Agudo from the Michelin-starred restaurant “Tickets”
- Paco Méndez from Michelin-starred restaurant “Hoja Santa”
- Rafael Zafra from “Cirque du Soleil” and the restaurant “Heart” located in Ibiza.
Chef Albert Adrià commented: “The MYBA Charter Show is a great opportunity for us to discover the cuisine created onboard superyachts and to have an insight into the world of yachting. We usually receive guests from superyachts in our restaurants in Barcelona and Ibiza but this time we will be the guests. We are very excited to be part of the Show”.
