No one travelling in Ocean Endeavour is in any doubt what so ever regarding the danger a Polar Bear can potentially be. We have been lectured on the subject and it has been explained to us what we must do if ever we are confronted.
Adventure Canada clearly take the threat they pose very seriously sending armed guards ashore at every landing site. These guards climb to vantage points and declare the site to be safe and bear free. Only then are guests allowed ashore.
Through out the time that guests are walking ashore in bear country, these armed sentries stand guard in the hillsides scanning the horizon for bear. If and when they find bear we know they will evacuate the area sending passengers back to the ship.
We have seen the movies and know how fast these cute looking cuddley’s can run and swim when they are chasing seal. We have no reason to question their desire to sniff out human flesh especially when they are hungry and so not only are we happy to have armed sentries looking after our welfare we feel secure knowing they know just what to do to keep us safe.
Frances and Michael Howorth explored the North West Passages onboard Ocean Endeavour with the help of Destination Canada www.destinationcanada.com and Adventure Canada www.adventurecanada.com We are truly grateful to them both for the opportunity they provided with us to do our job.
