Malta has over the years always offered exhilarating opportunities for sailors and this year is exception.
From 17th – 24th of October, Malta plays host to the Rolex Middle Sea Race, a highly rated offshore classic, which takes place in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea and covers one of the most beautiful courses in the world.
This brilliantly exciting offshore race kicks off in the beautiful clear waters of Valletta’s Grand Harbour then follows a demanding 606 mile route before returning back to Valletta.
The course takes in the most incomparably beautiful scenery yet offers the challenge to skippers and crews of coping with the sometimes unpredictably tough conditions of the Mediterranean Sea in October.
Rolex Middle Sea Race almost always attracts a mixed crowd and this year over 120 boats from 22 countries are taking part.
The boats themselves offer a spectacular site on race days and the comradery of the crews adds to the bustle and excitement on the harbour.
The Royal Malta Yacht Club is looking forward to welcoming this year’s fleet for the 36th edition of this race.
But it’s not just the skilled sailors who are attracted to the blue seas around Malta.
Clearly Valletta’s harbours create a safe haven even for the least experienced sailor, and there are many reputable sailing schools teach everything from the basics to refresher courses for those planning a sailing holiday.
