16 Perini Navi superyachts line the docks at Sardinia’s Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and the atmosphere is electric

The first race took place on Thursday 3rd, September with a fleet of 7 sailing yachts assembling on the start line.

We were sailing in Clan VIII a 45 metre sloop with a highly competitive owner and crew which made for a fun filled day on the water

The Perini Navi Cup merges on-water action and private events as races open up to cocktail contests for owners and guests as well as evenings of wine tasting and gala dinners to celebrate the winners, and ultimately the fleet.

It brings together an armada of both classic yachts and high-tech racing machines to celebrate the family of owners and captains behind the fleet.

First over the starting line was the iconic The Maltese Falcon, 33 minutes later we crossed the start and for those on board Clan VIII the race was on. Light winds and an almost calm sea proved to be a frustration but our crew used all their racing skills and expertise to maintain a slow but steady pace.

At one point we over hauled The Maltese Falcon while she was sailing up wind but when the wind was behind her even with our spinnaker up she pulled away from us to cross the finish line ahead of us but behind Rosehearty.

On corrected time Rosehearty was first Clan VIII second and The Maltese Falcon 3rd.

Question is which boat will we sail in tomorrow and can we take our winning streak with us?
