Covering Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, Inmarsat’s first Global Express satellite was launched in December 2013 and went into service in July 2014
With the company successfully launching the second of its next-generation satellites this week that will provide superfast broadband connections to users at sea, North and South America and the Atlantic Ocean will also be covered soon.
The third launch is scheduled for the second quarter of 2015 and will go into service in the second half of the year.
The new satellite is part of the $1.6bn (£1.1bn) network which will when complete deliver coverage of mobile broadband to users on land, sea and air, no matter how remote their location, and which is up to 100 times faster than the company’s current services.
