Sydney in Australia gets to welcome the new year well ahead of the Western side of the world and the firework display the city puts onto celebrate is legendary.
Getting the best view of those festive pyrotechnics is something that Superyachts owners have turned into an art form and this year it is Paul Allen’s Octopus that seems to bagged the best vantage spot. She steamed into Port Phillip on Tuesday morning and anchored off Point Piper.
Around 3000 local vessels turn out onto the harbour each year to see in the New Year and watch the fireworks display which is set off from the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The bridge gets closed to traffic from for an hour either side of midnight.
Ashore over 1.5 million people flock each year to the harbour’s foreshores to view the extravaganza.
This year they will be entertained by music from Australia’s Ella Hooper, Zeek Power and Gossling plus folk duo Milky Chance from Germany.
