Nakilat Damen Shipyards Qatar (NDSQ) recently received a visit from more than 20 international superyacht journalists and industry professionals for a tour of the company’s state-of-the-art facilities at Erhama bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard in Ras Laffan.
NDSQ is currently constructing two 71m fast-diving support vessels, which are being constructed to luxury super yacht standards and are due for delivery in 2017.
The visitors toured NDSQ’s facilities including the main construction hall, a super yacht outfitting building that has two bays, and a 1,100-tonne travel lift, one of the largest travel lifts in the world.
The shipyard extends across 150,000sqm. NDSQ’s 600m outfitting dock will be expanded in 2015 with the addition of a 120m outfitting pier.
NDSQ managing director Rino Brugge said: “Since NDSQ began operations in 2010, we have delivered more than 22 new vessels to the local market. We have also completed refits and repairs on 14 yachts of up to 80m in length.”
He added: “We are well-positioned to meet the growing needs of the maritime industry in Qatar and we are committed to making a strong contribution to the Qatar National Vision 2030. We are now keen to market our facilities and services to a wider audience and we are talking with a number of potential clients about super yacht projects.”
NDSQ is a joint venture of Nakilat and Dutch shipbuilder Damen and is based at Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard in Ras Laffan, Qatar. The company builds ships in steel, aluminum, and fibre reinforced plastic up to 170m in length.
