With yacht management at the core of its superyacht services, Monaco based Y.CO has launched a novel approach to managing its fleet
The initiative, an industry first, brings together a group of ten captains who will form a committee to directly address the operational needs of captains and crew.
The long-term vision is for them to expand it to yachts industry wide.
As well as offering an extra level of support to captains in their management fleet, the company plans to approach industry bodies with constructive suggestions to improve the wider superyacht industry.
The ten captains are to be supported by a chairman acting as an eleventh member of the committee, which will call itself Oceans Eleven.
Taking on the role is Scott Lidbetter, Y.CO director of fleet protocol an officer who left the Royal Navy as a rear admiral after a 30-year career and who has subsequently specialised in the superyacht industry.
Captains on the committee have each been chosen as the expert voice for their class of yacht. The captains actively contribute to debate and discussion of issues, offering reliable, open and honest opinions and proposing ideas for the improvement of industry standards.
Discussion takes place through the forum on the company’s online management system known as Y.CO LIVE and regular meetings.
All committee members can suggest topics for discussion; the initial guidelines for topic ideas range from flag states to sustainability and security to crew training and welfare.
